Hoping someone could help me understand this as it is racking my brain for months.

I am using a DNS Proxy to cheekily watch some US Netflix, problem is that it works perfectly fine on my PC but refuses to work on any other device, most importantly my Mac.

I have set the DNS servers on my Mac but no matter what, it refuses to work. I have also tried setting the DNS servers on my router which also doesn't work.

So really my question is how does the DNS settings work on PC but not Mac? :crying:

I noticed when I set up a pi-hole recently the Mac took a while to start using the DNS settings. I'm not sure if that had to do with DNS cache or something, but it eventually switched over.

Thanks. Maybe multiple reboots might work.

Works 100% for me. Which service are you using?

I'm using Smart DNS Proxy
Same here.

Try flushing the cache - https://support.unblock-us.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000139313-How-do-I-flush-my-DNS-cache-

  • Step 1:Open the Terminal
    • Navigate to Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
  • Step 2:Flush DNS - Type the following command and hit enter.
    • Mac OS X Yosemite and later
      sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
    • Mac OS X Yosemite v10.10 through v10.10.3
      sudo discoveryutil mdnsflushcache
    • Mac OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion and Lion
      sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
    • Mac OS X Snow Leopard
      sudo dscacheutil -flushcache

Sweet thanks, going to try this.

And I guess you've updated your IP address on the website?

And blocked 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 ?

Yep, Its working on my pc currently so IP's updated and working.

So weird. I wonder if trying a wifi dongle will be worth a try.

And those two IP addresses are blocked on the router?

EDIT: Are you using safari?
