DNS Problems UUNET or Router?

Hm, I personally use UUNet's ADSL as well and have not experienced anything of the sort... it could really be anywhere in the link, it's possible it's the router, it could also be a DNS problem. Are you manually assigning the DNS server IP's on your router or are you letting them get assigned by the ISP?

In your LAN connection go to properties, then to your TCP/IP connection, there also properties and tick I manually assign my DNS. There you type in prefered DNS 196.7.0.138 and in alternative DNS 196.7.142.132.

That will solve your problems...

Thanx will give it a try. Just a Q, What are those DNS servers and who manages them? Webafrica gave the first one, it's the one I entered into the router. Would you always rather have you network connection do the dns thingy or the router?

Thanx

every server SAIX, UUNET or others have their own DNS. Please remember, that you must setup your router for manual DNS as well as your LAN.

The alternative is to leave them blank and (if the option exists) check an option to allow for server-assigned DNS servers. This will specify that the ISP will automatically assign your DNS servers to you, which imho is the more reliable option.

My dlink 504t seems to often not start the internal dns properly (or it crashes) and this results in my pc not being able to perform DNS lookups, as setting your network DNS to be obtained via DHCP (automatically) simply points to the router as DNS. IN order to stop this from happening the DNS needs to be setup manually.

Although I am on a SAIX ISP I assume that this is probably also what is happening in your case (The first couple of times it happened to me I mumbled to myself about how crap SAIX was until I found out the problem was the router).
