Got a similar problem just now. Router says "connected" but can't browse anymore. Couldn't browse Cell C's site. But using a different connection I did a nslookup for cell C and Telkom's site. Then using the Cell C connectin again I could ping both sites using the IP addresses. I then tried an international site's IP address and even that I could ping! So then I typed in the IP address of the international site into my browser and voila, I could browse! So the nslookups are failing at random it seems!

Should I try a different DNS server perhaps??

Would there be a benefit in using Opendns given my previous post?
You can try OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) or Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and see if it helps.

Someone else was having the exact same problem as you he was unable to visit mybroadband and a variety of other websites, now he is using a proxy to vist mybroadband and others sites...

Could not browse to www.cellc.co.za but could browse there using their IP address. (EDIT: And it was a new page, something that was under construction, so it wasn't cached)

So why is the 2nd hop timing out?

I think that just means that device is set to not respond to ICMP packets.
Try tcptraceroute instead of traceroute.
