Good Day All

I set my ADSL routers PPPoE DNS servers manually to 1.1.1.1 1.1.1.1.
I set my computers network adapter DNS servers manually to 1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2

I tried ipconfig /flushdns

Still can resolve domains like google.com and yahoo.com

Why? Dont understand how host\domains can still be resolving?

Does it take awhile for the computer to remove all DNS server addresses? Another way to force remove any DNS server address from the computer or check.

Unless 1.1.1.1 is a DNS server ... i dont know about ... lol

ip router.PNG

ip router2.PNG

Thanks

1. Why?

2. Set DNS servers, flush all caches and reboot both the PC and the router.

Maybe some form of "background" failover by the Router because it can't resolve those addresses?

So it points it to the default gateway ones instead?

Maybe do an nslookup to determine WHERE it's getting the DNS information from?

If NSLookup says 1.1.1.1, well then I have no ideas.

Windows 7 and higher would try to resolve from roott DNS servers as a last resort.

So even if you add the incorrect servers, if you have a working gateway, MS DNS would resolve, slower, because it would try yours first,

So what was your intention with this setting? Were you trying to prove that the DNS references were flushed and cleared and that you were expecting some sort of failed connection as a result?

Use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, Ideally use your ISP DNS as it will result in best route speeds.

Did you read the original post at all or just jump straight to this default response for all things DNS?

Had a look in routing table and saw no route to 1.1.1.1 so wtf did 1.1.1.1 come from?

I think he's trying to black hole DNS for some reason.

With a proper routing device he could just block Port 53 and 5353.

I think gfmalan hit the nail on the head.

OP seems awol though. Typical. would like to know the logic behind this.

I think OP tried to break DNS (maybe to disable internet access) and then realized no matter how he/she try, the MS machine still able to resolve names.

It's more a why DNS still work question even if DNS is spesified incorrectly.
