Hi guys, looking for a cheap web-based DNS server/service which I can use to keep my hosted domains separate from the server they're hosted on.

Found easydns.com but I have a suspicion the $19.99 fee is per domain and not for the service allowing you unlimited domains (currently only have < 10 but can grow)

Anyone else know of such a service? Free would be best but I won't mind paying up to $30 odd for a server per year. As long as it's reliable and doesn't screw me over without notice I'll be happy

They're not really a DNS provider as such but I use Slicehost. They have a web-based DNS management system and there are no limits to the number of domains you can add as far as I can tell. Entry level package is $20.

Do you just want to manage DNS? OR do you need other services as well? For R100 per year, which is the cost of the domain, I'll give you a DNS-only control panel for free :)

have not had a problem with them at all there free and really good so ye enjoy

paid services
http://www.no-ip.com $25 per domain per year
http://www.dyndns.com $29.95 per domain per year

personal i find no-ip to be the better service but its what ever you are used to

if you are going to have alot of domains maby get a vps or dedicated server and set up your own dns server it not that hard im sure there are a few guides, i know also there are cheap vps solutions for 10-20 euros

Thanks, I went with editdns. I need a service that's independent of my server. Reason for that is I do barter deals with companies who can't afford admin guys, so any technical issues/maintenance comes to me (I only do this for 1 company at a time though)

My clients then get the benefit of being hosted for free by me on a pretty decent server, and I get the benefit of offering my clients free hosting.

The problem is (like I've experienced recently), that if I'm using the DNS server of the company who gives me this kind of deal, and they decide to move the server/and|or get a server administrator other than me, I'm kind of screwed and have to pack up and go quite quickly.

Because I don't really trust anyone other than me administering a server (cause I know WTF I'm doing and can respect privacy and intellectual property!) I'd rather have my DNS hosted on a proper array seperate from the hosting.

That way I protect my clients (to a degree) from being poached and have the added benefit of never having to change DNS servers, which is a pain in the ass if any of you have ever moved DNS servers.

So now it's just a question of an ip address change/switchover.

Also, paying R100/domain or $20 per domain *just* for DNS each year is a bit excessive. I tried editdns's support and they came back pretty quickly with prompt concise answers. And I can host all of my domains without them batting an eye @ price.

They also include a mail forwarding service, mail backup service AND a spam block facility for mail, so you can silently route your email (or back it up/get it checked for spam) before it even reaches your server... plus a load of other features that I can't remember offhand now.

Thanks for the responses guys!
