The promotion offers great 60% discount deals on the Data Modems. This will directly reduce the monthly subscription that customers will be paying on a monthly basis for the bundle. The DO 3G is powered by ‘wideband code division multiple access’ (WCDMA) technology which supports services like high speed internet access, video and high quality voice transmission.

Promotion Dates
The Promotion launches on 9 November 2009 and runs until 11 January 2010.

Cash Prices:
E220 Modem is going for R581.23

E960 Gateway is going for R929.97

thats the part I don't like.:(

So you have to sign a contract for data even if you pay cash for the modem? Thats very strange.......

Telkom is on the Right Track

It is a bit confusing as it gives a cash price.

The cash price should be irrelevant if you sign a 24 month contract.

Sorry to remind you guys that MTN , Vodacom & Cell-C are not following the law of the country.

Under new Regulations published by ICASA.

Mobile Operators must clearly differentiate between the Terminal cost and the actual airtime/data cost.

eg. R99 per month on a 500mb Bundle

R39 = Terminal Cost = Modem
R60 = Bandwith Cost = 500mb of data

eg. R99 per month on Top Up 99

R49 = Mobile Phone
R50 = Airtime to the Value of R99

The reason for this is if you are unhappy with your service provider. You may pay off the equipment cost in one hit and maybe 2 months early cancellation subs and leave your Operator.

MTN , Vodacom & Cell-C are just having a party with the public.

They do as they PLEASE

They are the rule of law in SA.

I have to give my 1 cents worth, but Telkom, I think, is the only telecommunications company inside South Africa that adjure to the Electronic Communications ACT. I have to also say even their ISP is in full compliance. I mean look at the 24 hour reset on ADSL, they are not doing it anymore but there is still ISP’s out there doing it, also the “local data will not be subject to a cap”, their ISP is providing uncapped local on all their accounts. Point out one ISP adjuring to the Communications ACT like they do. Please don’t get confused between 3G and ADSL here, I am mostly pointing out ADSL regulatory compliances.

DXL I fully support your statement.

Thanks for the explanation, it now makes sense.

That does make sense! Thanks.

Making Cents

Can somone make sense out of this.

I am already an "All -Access" Telkom customer with DO Broadband -- Closer etc etc.

Telkom OWN me :D ( without ever signing a contract )

How does the Do 3G fit in and do I get a special rate due to the fact that Telkom already "own" me.

Would like to get the E960 and just have an extra R10.00 added to the account at the end of the month -- * WITHOUT a contract *.

Checked the map and it appears that you do have coverage in my area.
but
I already have an UNRICAED VC data card -- ( maybe a couple of others)

I have purchased a E960 at R930 without siging a contract. Go to Boulders in Midrand. They will sell you one....

Remember, the cash price is for the modem only. I think the 970 model may be released and therefore sellingvout this one....

If you want a free modem you have to take certain packages (which I did with the second modem I bought) e.g. do 3g data bundle with closer 3.....

How long does it take for a contract like this. Do I just walk in fill in the forms and walk out with the equipment???

Here's the deal....

I walked in, asked for the modem. They agreed R930. Then I asked for it free on signing a closer 3 and Do 3G 1 GB package. They told me to get lost as it was only for a 10G package. They refused to listen -- typical government employee attitude. I even mentioned that I called the telkom call centre and they confirmed the deal. They refused saying the call centre does not always know everything!!!

I then asked the guy to come see the telkom website showing the offer. He refused to believe it but eventually gave me the deal. Without another word be processed everything and I walked out with the modem and sim card. (Do ask for what tel no they will give you).

I put the sim in a 3G enabled phone and instantly could make a call.....

If it was not for teh attitude of the agents, I would say it was a pleasant experience and immediate service from telkom......:confused:

I have read on the other thread that the E960 does NOT support HSUPA -- which the B970 does.

Not sure how correct this is -- you could check :confused:

Perhaps why the E960 is "last-years" model and cheep ...... cheep

It does not support HSUPA.

I went to the Telkom Shop in Festival Mall and I got the E220 modem without the 24 months contract for R581.25.

I still have to test it on the MTN network and see what speed I can achieve.

Do yourself a favour and use the Mobile Partner software already on the modem. Do not use the MTN provided software....
