I've had 2 adsl modems malfunctioning now withing bout a year. The first being one of those cheap mecer modems, I hated that one. The second being a dlink, which just started to lose "physical connection".

Is this always the case with these cheaper modems? It's just for one PC so I don't need a good modem, but maybe its the best option at the end of the day...

Had a dead line 2yrs back and when the techie came to look, found it was the electrical source I was using for my modem.

Also check your pots filters. I went through 2 in one year.

i am using a Zyxel USB modem that i got for free/gratis/mahala. it is approx 4 yrs old- i bought it from Rectron for a friend who has since closed down the office he had- i have absolutely no problems with this R300 modem except that it only has drivers for XP and i cannot find drivers for Win 7 anywhere- even at Zyxels website. now it looks like im going to have to buy another cheap modem. i see Rectron have another Zyxel modem for R329 +VAT. this one is WIN 7 compatible.

Just buy a router with an Ethernet port. USB ports are such a waste of time.
