I have a PC with a 400 gig drive and a terabyte drive. I have spare bays for another drive and thinking of purchasing a 2 terabyte drive and popping it into my box. Will my pc slow down? how do i know if my power supply is suffice. Whats the minimum power supply to run a 400 gig + 1 tera + 2 tera ?

i have a 512 grphics cars and dvd writer
....dont use the dvd writer much

:D

With a hardware description like that I wouldn't even recommend you attempt to install the hard-drive yourself. Forget an accurate assessment of it's capabilities, power wise or otherwise.

The description you gave is akin to saying: Guys I drive a car, what kind of gas mileage can I expect? Then we ask what kind of car and you write, oh a blue car.

See the problem?

don't worry about it i'd say, even without knowing your PSU and stuff....

it's just another hard drive....

(Worse comes to worst, just take out the 400gb, or get a small to medium sized power supply)

New drives use like 8W so unless your PSU is already on the edge, odds are you're quite safe.

An extra hard drive or two should be fine even on an OEM PSU, but if you are going to upgrade from your "512mb" graphics card I suggest getting expert help.

I had a FAULTY psu long ago that ran my system fine but when I added another HDD it refused to start up the machine.... it would also randomly crash the moment the optical drive spun up.

I'm not saying your psu might be faulty but rather safe than sorry... check the spec of your psu before doing any upgrades
