I'm connecting a media stream direct to my PC - an oldish Celeron used only to hold media (no internet).

Do I have a default gateway or primary/secondary DNS server?

default gateway - only if your routing traffic internally to a different lan subnet.
dns - only if you've setup an internal dns server of your own.

Thanks.

So in laymens terms, I don't have a gateway as I don't have a LAN? (Its a standalone single PC without internet).

Now if I go to my connection > TCP/IP settings > properties and choose my own static IP - what do I put in the 'gateway' box ... as I don't have one? Can I leave it blank?

Leave it blank (obtain ip address automatically) but put these numbers in your dns settings
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Thanks ... I'll try that at home.

One more thing : What would the cause be if both device are set static IP address (media streamr and PC) and I can even ping the media streamer - but it refuses to connect?

Both on subnet 255.255.255.0

I broke it tim :( Sorta ... I changed the IP, changed it back, and it BROKE :(

But the weird thing is the Xbox still streams and the wireless network is 100% ... it's just the media streamer. If everything else picks up and works when the IP is back, the media streamer should too :/

I didn't wanna bug you though :P

How good a friend am I?

what do you mean when you say it refuses to connect?, ping confirms the pc's are on the same subnet and that the protocol is up and running.

are you trying to map a drive? connect to a folder - check the permissions.

Connection failures can mean or refer to alot.
