Recently my graphics card broke. I cant go on windows. When i switch on my pc it goes to that black screen thingy, then just before it goes to windows the pc restarts. I tried formatting my hard drive but i cant my pc cant access it. So i know i need a new grqphics card but do i also need a new hdd?

Do you have onboard graphics? Did you remove the busted Gfx card?

First remove the busted gfx card then test. Sigh...

If you plug in the drive to another pc can that pc access it?

Try resetting the BIOS to the defaults, and see what happens. If you have an onboard graphics and are using a PCIe/AGP add-on card, this usually has to be selected on the BIOS.

See I cant remove the gfx card and check since thats the only place I can plug my monitor plug into the PC.

Can't what? Plug it in or access it?

This is going to be a painful process for those trying to help :D

haha I apologize im not the best with computers, mine is so outdated.
Anyway I plugged it into my friends brothers computer and I couldn't acces it there, even when the brothers hdd was also in. I tried without the brothers hdd and also with, got nothing.

Start by replacing the gfx card (with a friends' card maybe, just to test)
Then once that is ruled out, check whats up with the HDD, maybe even a mobo, who will know with what you're telling/ not telling us :)

Does the BIOS pickup the HDD?

Did you try and access your HDD from another computer in Windows or did you try and boot from it?

I cant check the first part now cos my monitor doesnt show anything, its on but doesnt show anything.
I tried to access it.

Have you tried what FrancTheTank mentioned?

I've had 2 instances where my monitor wouldn't show anything even though the cable was detected.

Ram sticks that didn't work well together, removed one and the screen would display again. Also when I connect my HAF 922 side 200mm fan to my musketeer fan controller for some reason, but I'm guessing you wouldn't have an issue like that. If all else fails check the ram maybe?
