This questions really been plaguing me ever since the announcement. I've tried to save up, and even was close to having enough to buy it on launch at one point, but I didn't end up getting it and spending on other items. Console gaming is what I usually spend a lot of time doing and have a ps3 with a backlog, but I've hardly made attempts to finish it. I usually only enjoy a handful of AAA games. If I had to get a PS4, there would have to be a 'must have' game for it, and incredible value in the deal. With the current price of a console, lack of appealing games, increased price of games and accessory cost. Is it worth it? There's still plenty of wonderful games to play on ps3.
I think my answer is that I don't need it at all right now. Maybe in future. It would nice to have though to play with friends who have moved over and a better version of Fifa. But I can manage without it.
