Do iBurst shape downloading for GMAIL?

When Gmail first came out and there were only a few users on it, it was great.

But now that iBurst has caught on they are shaping the k*k out of it! (i have my sources....)

limnos, you talking downloads from webmail, or POP3?

I find regular http downloads to be fine - it's the POP3 access that gets me down.

i have exactly the same problem - and i use gmail for my business including receiving electronic faxes. time to change to 3g

It sucks.. I also receive big files from Gmail and it's DAMN slow.

Is it not possible to speak to them to unshape Gmail services?

Honestly now iBurst... It's an email service...

GMail web client takes forever to open on mine, but once its up and running it seems fine.

just spent the last 21 hours unlocking counterstrike: source because it was shaped down to 3 or 5kB/s, does the regulator allow shaping like this? Its not like I have a choice, I cannot use CS or Half-Life2 until they've unlocked themselves and that involves massive web downloads. What's the point of the extra bandwidth and carryover if all its good for is web and email traffic?

I don't really have any problem with GMail... If my GMail is slow, it means I'm having a slow day. And vice versa for a fast day.

My iBurst got so useless that I dropped the modem off at my parents and got myself some real Internet (ADSL). I used to get 1024kbps but in the end, it was running at an average of 200-300kbps.

Unfortunately my parents rely on Gmail entirely for their business email needs and they have been getting time-outs for the past couple of weeks.

I think iBurst is messing around with the whole of Gmail (all the ports) since even when you try and download those big attachments using the web-client, you wont get more then a few Kb/s

I must add that the same thing is happening when I try to access some of the local Hetzner hosted websites. On iBurst it feels like your using a standard analog 56k modem while on ADSL (telkom/IS) speeds seem fine so I don't quite get what iBurst is doing.

POP3 downloads suck big time!

I have the same problem, not only with G-Mail, but also with all my other 12 (don't ask!;) ) POP3 accounts, including my Iburst POP3 account!

I wrote to iBurst on Monday, querying this, but to date, they have not responded!

I also get frequent timeout errors!

Come on, Iburst, how about some acceptable answers, mmm?

Good Day Mr. ****

Thank you for contacting our iBurst helpdesk. My name is ***** and I will be handling your request.

With regards to your request of GMAIL being shaped, please find the information requested below.

Access to the Gmail website is not shaped. You might experience slow speeds when the server is congested. Is this the only website that is slow? If not, I have attached two documents on changing your MTU. Correctly set MTU will prevent packet fragmentation resulting in degraded connectivity. The recommended MTU for iBurst is 1352. For stand alone USB or PCMCIA please set the Dial Up Ras MTU to 1352.

How could they blame it on the MTU? Dunno what the problem is..

Typical helldesk reply, when they don't know what the problem is they always blame it on MTU settings.

Yes they caught on to GMail and they are shaping the downloading of attachments. I used my company's ADSL and I ran them side by side and the ADSL downloads fast but they throttle me on iBurst to 1.3kbit/sec downloading a FSCKING JPEG I sent myself from my GMail account.

They are also playing censorship games, having issues accessing certain Chinese websites!!!!! which suddenly magically work via a proxy server.

I am getting to the point where I am going to do something to these bastards.

If I het another friggin MTU message I'm going to stick my MTU up their you know what....these guys are completely clueless about what's going on...

Throttling gmail...oh my soul...what next??

It really is terrible. I have emailed TWICE! And to mention the obvious, I still havent received a reply!

Has anyone else tried approaching them with this concern?

iBurst today proudly announced their new Novice Pro Penis Enlarger EXTREEEM Bundled contract.

The package will allow 10GB of bandwidth for R 169 per month, thereafter R16.90 per megabyte. Traffic is shaped to <1KB/s to everything except pinging servers.
