Now the question is , she have the DO BB thing from telkom, but she dont log in with username and password. How do i take that away and put a log in thingie back there?

And do i need special setup if my pc is connect wireless or via LAN to the router she got with it? It have 4 ports and a wireless arrial.

Thanks 2 anyone who can help out with this info.

What you are looking at is the classic RasPPPOE (http://raspppoe.com/) setup. It creates connections (that look like dial up connections) that you can log in to with your ISP's username and password (There is no phone number or anything, it all goes to the same place)...

The router can accept many of these connections at once, so both of you can be logged in at the same time, with different ISP's.

Oh, and router must be changed to bridge mode

Yup like Kris said, you'd have the router in bridge mode and then on each pc you would create broadband connections. With XP you don't need to install any software, just go into network connections

> create new connection
> connect to the internet
> setup my connection manually
> connect using a broadband connection which requires username and password
> type in any name of your choice
> type in your isp details
> done.

You can go either via ethernet or w-lan, both quite straight forward as well.

ok, many thanks.

but on here pc she have no connections under network connections, only her old 3g connection is their and her old dail up.....

Where and how do i set the router to bridge mode?

Flame I assume she's got the Mega 100wr router. This means the router probably negotiates the connection for her which is why the connection isn't showing in the connections view. You should be able to innitiate your own connection even if the router is doing this using a manual pppoe setup when creating a new connection on your desktop. Well, at least the default setup allowed us to do it on a friend's network.

Follow kris860911's advice and see what happens.

If it's the Megaw100r

you would go into your browser
type in 10.0.0.2 in the address bar
username: admin
password: admin

>You should see 'advanced' at the top, click on that
>on the left you should see 'wan'
>then quickstart
>can name it whatever...
>type 'bridge'
>default settings otherwise are fine.
>apply then save and restart router.

Here's a screenie

huh photonman? when i type that 10. thing , it says only "The page cannot be displayed"

???

and must i load router software my side also? lets say my XP is freshly installed with a brand new pc.... what i do, step by step..

thanks
regards

I take it you are using a ethernet cable...

go to start
>run
>type in there 'cmd'
>type in 'ipconfig'

you should get a default gateway....

>type 'ping and the default gateway' ie: ping 10.0.0.2

should get 4 replies.

if not, go into network connections
>right click on local area connection
>properties
>highlight 'internet protocol.."
>properties
>auto assign your ip's and dns's

huh photonman? when i type that 10. thing , it says only "The page cannot be displayed"

???

the default ip address is different for every router. so the 10.x.x.x one will only work for that specific router. Like i know the default for the Billion 7300 is 192.168.1.254...

so try photon's advice on getting the default gateway...
i had a problem a little while ago ,where my router was in bridge mode, and the default gateway wasnt correct in ipconfig. Luckily i knew the ip of the router off hand, els i dunno how i would have found it. couldnt see it anywhere...

ok, what i did not tell u is my pc is not connected to the modem yet...lol sorry.

I just want to know if 2 ISP's can be connected at the same time, or if i can put her a connection, in network connections then at least, BEFORE i go buy a new PC speacialy to put in the workshop for me....?

Thanks
