My ex boss used to use it in the modern age of adsl. Not sure if he still does. He said he preferred it because he can retract emails quickly.

If you don't have infrastructure in place and if you don't want to upgrade. As above, old people often, because they don't surf the web (those that do would usually have adsl).

ISDN was dead before it took off in most places, niche product that was expensive. I think Japan & Germany were exceptions with pretty good uptake.
I had bri isdn for a few years for work, was much nicer than dialup but getting client side adapters going could be a biatch. I did the testing & documentation for work to get racal cards & cisco as5300 going but once it worked it worked well.

Amazing how time flies, checking my records I see we ran ISDN from 2001 to end 2006, username TelkomISDN51 - guess we were early adopters.
We front ended our IPCops with Mecer(?) external USB modems using the conexant chipset which was about the only USB modem we could find locally that IPCop supported. An IPCop upgrade eventually broke the conexent support which was the final bump we needed to move to ADSL (IPCop forum remark at the time was USB = UnSuitable for Broadband).

I was a guinea pig for ISDN2a (I think) in the 90s. Had free service for about 2 years!!
