Do you BCC people on mails?

Yes, the boss gets bcc'd sometimes to get an idea of the progress being made and the fact that I am actually working

I try to avoid it if at all possible.

Makes a mail seem very impersonal as the only reason you'd use it would to send the same mail to many people. Now obviously when I do need to send the same mail to many people I would use as it's still preferable to exposing emailing addresses unnecessarily.

hmm...seems newsletter/mass mails are the primary application here.

:D

Though as of late I've been getting flack for that. Working late = why aren't you managing your time better. Can't win. :/

yes where asymmetry of information is preferred in managing a situation

I use it when I deal with people that might become a time bomb, so I BCC my manager in to keep him in the loop.

BCC gets used on our newsletters since we also do work for various opposition companies, in order to hide our client list from them.

so they should be informed but not to the extent they know who the other stakeholders are?

boooo....down with censorship.

Of course they know - everyone except the BCC audience is known.

An example would be thanking a project member on a good job, and BCC'ing his direct line manager.

Or, as someone else has mentioned, BCC'ing in junior colleagues on important mails so that they know what's going on, and where they have nothing (yet) to contribute.
