I remember as a kid taking deworming tablets. Don't think I've ever taken it as an adult. I don't have pets but spend a good amount of time outdoors in parks & forest. Wondering if I need to deworm and whether other people do it?

Many doctors recommend testing stool samples before taking deworming medication as unnecessary treatment is usually avoided in adults.
Far as I'm aware the medication is pretty safe. There's also natural alternatives. One of those things where the safety profile is so high that it seems easier to take the deworming than go through the mission of getting poop samples tested.

Why would you take medicine blindly without having some tests done beforehand?

Also I've seen quite a few suggestions that people in South Africa take deworming pills due to a high prevalence in soil & animals.

Yes, every two months with the dog and kids and wife being around.

Seen too many House and medical episodes pertaining to worm infestation.
Additionally, Wormstop is insanely cheap.

If people are so quick to embrace Ivermectin, then why not?

Many here do indeed do deworming. You know that you are having this conversation with the internetz? There will be those deworming themselves as they reply in this thread without admitting they do.

It is only really a thing to consider, in my opinion, when your circumstances allow the risk.

Still, I wouldn't just take medication because it's "safe" without having testing done. Besides, a lot of this is also just "marketing", there are thousands of supplements, medications, health, hygiene products, a healthy normal adult human being doesn't need to consume.

What the hell is this? Where are you people hanging out that there's worms?!

Stop playing in puddles, and open fields and eating random bus tickets off the floor!

Not as a regular thing. I did notice a few small worms in the kids toilet bowl a while back, then we dewormed the kids.

Thanks for bringing up the pets, we recently got a dog and I didn't think of that..
