Just generalized question. Do you have a purpose in life which you pursue or meaningful work which fulfils you?

Contextual; you can still be ok with life if sleep -> eat -> fun is your thing. Right? Or do you only feel satiated if you have one or more of the above (meaning, reason, fulfillment, ...) :unsure:

[x] Other:

I would venture that neither purpose or meaningful is the only things that leads to a satiation. Or in basic terms the cookie cutters for all.

Errrm... So from what I've read, many suicidal people actually phone those lines just to have some company for their final moments. So, nah.
Just curiosity; one of my friends used to do volunteer one of the helplines, but as you said, he said it became depressing and demotivating. Does the firefighting give you some meaning in life?

Still in the process. But, so far so good. I've got some different goals beyond just fulfillment though.
Problem I've got, working in project management, there isn't really a "I did this" feeling once a project goes live - I mean I help guide the cats, but I don't build anything. Actually helping someone, whatever that looks like, is a much different day in the life of.

My only thing I live for is to give my kids a better opportunity than what I had, no matter the cost to me. If I have to work till my 80s and die at work its ok. As long as they have it better than me. There comes a time in your life when you have to take a step back and think of the bigger picture.

What have a I done? Life saving, Mountain Rescue, etc during my younger days, so I saved some lives. Didnt keep contact so not sure if it was worth it. I guess you get that older Matt Damon in Saving Pvt Ryan. Earn this. I tell my kids that. Stand up for yourself, dont let people push you down, and be the best that you want to be.

My daughter wants to be a pediatrician (to help kids) and my son either and engineer or a physicist.

I so so it is more a combination of things: goals, purpose, meaningful rather than one of them (or none).

Provided I'm working in the Engineering industry, then my life has an important ish purpose, keep them mines running, keep the families fed, etc etc I like that thought.

I feel existentially anxious every now and then. I see squabbling on the forum, as if people are going to find their lives matter because they have the best taste in film, because they picked the C1, because they see fiat currencies for what they really are. To me it’s obvious that people are running around headless trying to find a reason why they matter, and I can’t laugh because I feel that way sometimes too. It’s all distraction and a way to avoid with dealing with the question of meaning directly.

I find trolling purposeful and meaningful: make people reevaluate their values by getting them enraged over stupid ****.

Sometimes it’s just a mood, but sometimes you have to sit down and clearly define things. Just don’t start a cult.

Plot twist: @Herr der Verboten finds God.
@Herr der Verboten your thread:
Lol no thanks; neither non-god(s), gods(s) or braai is required. It's a general thread if you haven't deducted as much. However, the difference is I don't go off running to the mybroadband moderators on each post that isn't what I believe on-topic or off-topic.
