Do you have dread disease cover?

If so, how much are you paying per month, with which provider is your policy, how old are you, and what is covered?

Is this something people have in addition to medical aid, gap cover, and life insurance?

I have. Will need to check, but not all policies are created equal.
Some only let you claim percentages, some only single claims etc

Old Mutual, 32, 250 000 cover, R114.

And yes, I have all the other stuff as well.

Yes.

I have with PPS. A bit more comprehensive than the others but also more expensive.

Main thing you want to check is the Cancer, Heart Attack, Stroke and Conorary Bypass Graft percentages and definitions. Those are the most likely you will claim on and perhaps any other family illnesses you are likely to get.

I have one and realised that there is also one that my companies pays for thats part of our group risk benefits.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation. I have some form of disability/dread disease via my group life at work, but it doesn't look comprehensive. I'm trying to decide if/how I need additional cover.

Its normally a percentage of your annual salary, the pay out. These products are not expensive if you want decide to take out a second one. Just read through the fine print some specific conditions and requirements for claims.

@potter123 Did you decide to keep/take out more cover from another provider in addition to your company's group risk cover? I'm in the same situation now where I applied to PPS, but I am wondering if I am now over insured

Be careful of definitions. My friend had a heart attack according to his cardiologist but PPS didn’t think so as the “cardiac enzymes” were below a certain level.

Also make sure you have “carcinoma in situ” cover for cancers
