Born in SA so SA citizenship and Irish citizenship through foreign birth.
Wife born in SA so SA citizenship and Irish citizenship through marriage.
Son was born in UK so has British citizenship by birth, Irish citizenship through foreign birth, and SA through foreign birth.

Tiocfaidh ár lá - our day will come

ZA only. I am too far misplaced to claim any others.

I've got UK and US - my kids have SA and US but not UK for now - I'm entitled to SA as well but really can't see the point.

Thought about getting citizenship in my ex's country, but decided against it due to the military service requirement. My son currently only has SA citizenship too, but he has the choice of taking his mom's nationality if he wishes. He absolutely hated living there though, so I doubt he will want to do it.

Where?

I have never even left the country, let alone have foreign citizenship!

Years ago my father told me that his grandmother was Irish, hence our ****ed up surname, but I've never done any research into it.

Imagine me - coloured - walking around in Ireland

Just because you're a drunk it doesn't mean you're automatically Irish.

Lived in the UK long enough to be British but didn't do it. Biggest regret of my life. Still technically might be able to get indefinite leave to remain again as far as I know but it's probably not necessary to explore it. Thankfully I have an EU passport by descent.

Do you hold citizenship with a second (or more) country? If so did you inherit it from a parent etc, or did you get it through naturalisation?
[X] Holland through birth but expired when I turned 21. afaik.

Haven't followed up on that, probably should have by now.

Why not? May as well have applied.

Took about 7 years before I was eligible and nearly decided against it myself and return to SA (thankfully I didn't follow through with that absurdity).

I stayed on another 8 years in UK, although spent a fair bit of time in other countries.
Living in UK year round is hell weather wise. Sunless, overcast, grey and damp in winter, and sweltering humidity in much of summer.

I was 16 if I remember correctly, I was incorrectly told things by my father which lead to a whole miscommunication. I knew I had access to the EU passport (barring some weird issues around paperwork) so I wasn't exactly concerned at the time.

So yeah I have a UK student loan and bank account but no actual right to live in the UK. :D
