So the Gran's DSTV decoder packed up and she desperately needs her soaps , so I have to go replace it. I'm hearing stories about she has to come with to provide her ID when purchasing the Decoder (personally I don't have a TV license) I've got some shopping to do today. I was thinking I could pick one up from Game and be done with it but if she has to come basically I have to cancel my plans for the day.

Also she has the Gen before the first HD decoder, the existing satellite should still work right?

You might need to replace the LNB and pull another cable.

I think you can get an LNB that only requires one cable then you don't need to pull another cable. Can't remember the names of the different LNBs.

No ID necessary when buying a decoder, or having DSTV installed or a dish or...only for the TV.

Ask on the Wanted forum for a decoder. I have tried giving my decoders away and no one wants them. I think you will find many other people willing to give you one for free, or maybe 6 cold ones.

Just test it with another power supply. The decoder most probably is fine.

The cards can’t be swapped between decoders, and Multichoice are a nightmare when you replace / self install your own decoder. They also charge a ‘reconnection’ fee to register the new machine.

Mine was ( what I thought would be ) a simple replacement Explora with HD dish/cable/LNB already in place.
Hope your Gran’s is easier, but best to call MC before you go shopping - specially if she’s on contract.
