if you talk nicely the station commander at most police stations will sell you amnesty guns

Absolutely.
Have for the last 7 or so years. I have a Section 15 (Occasional Sports Shooting) and I'm registered with NatShoot. It allows for both my CZ PT10s (recently said goodbye to my father's CZ75 in favour of the shift as well as an older but beautiful Baretta 380.
I have a wife and two toddlers, and there's no way you'll find us driving at night without myself concealed carrying.
PRO TIP: A Section 15 Sports Shooting also covers you in case they ever manage to void ownership for the purposes of self defense as was the talk earlier this year.
