I am in the process of obtaining a firearm but employment issues mean that finances are tight which is limiting the process. My wife has a firearm though and I have my competency after doing the written and practical tests before applying at our local SAPS.

Why add that word? What the hell has woke got to do with it??
Maybe I should shoot you for making such a suggestion! :X3:

No snowflakes here. No cavemen either.
You have obviously never been hijacked, shot at. Lived on a farm.
Never had burglars tie you up and torture you. Never had family violently attacked. The odds are it will happen not if it will happen.

I never wanted guns, had no interest, didnt grow up with them or go hunting etc...My folks also didnt own firearms.

But things changed for me when I was robbed a couple of years back....and I was at home...Thankfully they didnt know I was in the house and I didnt know they were skulking about outside...Until they were gone.

After that I decided there was no way I was going to be that victim who gets robbed, assaulted and likely murdered in my own home...It was some PT getting everything sorted out and it cost me a fair bit of money but its worth the effort in my opinion.

Its also somewhat comforting when I come home late at night and I am armed...More so for the drive home should I break down or something.

I dont look forward to the day I have to use it but when it comes there wont be hesitation from my side.
Thats not bravado...thats wanting to live.

Even if we had a decent police force they are still minutes away from coming to assist you and you are on your own.

I also understand people not wanting firearms, it is a big responsibility but you also have a responsibility for your life and that of others around you.

I take my weapon everywhere now, even when running and cycling or just nipping out to the shop for a loaf of bread. South Africa has become an extremely violent country and compliance is no guarantee you will walk out of a situation alive.

Sad days really.

Something not understood about those of us who are anti-gun usage.
  • Many of us have a healthy respect for gun owners' rights - it's your choice.
  • Some of us have actually used weapons - was in the army, got quite good at shooting with my riffle.

We also know that guns get people shot when tempers are lost, or kids find them, even cleaning them is dangerous for those not careful enough.
We respect your rights, respect our decision not to too.

Unfortunately as unemployment rises and people get more desperate, crime increases.
We know SAPS is totally inefficient and the criminals know this as well.

Thing is, in this post and post #5, you very subtly don't.

I have . On me all the time everywhere i go. Also carry enough ammo and mags to get into a war.
The July looting made me realise how unprepared i was although i was still better off than most. Some guys had a revolver with 6 rounds with no food in his house

I am now in the process of getting together my Shtf gear

People kill people not fire arms so logic says ban people/nutters/police who sell or lose their fire arms and ammunition.
I have nothing in common with the sheep who roll over.
Somebody has to protect them from the wolves and sure as hell its not gonna be our magnificent police force.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Nothing wrong with protecting ourselves, but for me I'll rather take my chances that no weapon = less threat for abusers to challenge.
7 individuals robbed an elderly couple about 5km from us, no guns, elderly, no threat whatsoever, they still hurt them.
Also had family where the aunt had her skull caved in with a metal rod and the uncle tied up with the electrical cord and repeatedly stabbed, not a gun in sight, she died during the attack.

Other:
Technically should have signed a document to state I am not allowed to own a gun for ~20 years, somehow the army forgot about it. /shrug
