Eventually got a gold buyer who took the whole lot. When the deal took place he took out all the coins from their moer fancy boxes and threw them in a corner. The boxes have no value at all. I kept a few for the kids to play with.

I still have some or other mandela gold coin that is worth its weight in gold, literally.

Bullion is Krugerrands.

I was talking proof coins/collectors sets that he had vs bullion (Krugerrands, Canadian Maple Leaf, American Eagle, etc.)

I don't know about the other countries but you can get Krugerrands and other coins as collectable sets in boxes and as proof coins at quite a bit more cost. They are all shiny and nice looking. Not worth it at all if you are just looking to buy gold as wealth preservation.

If you want to show off your pretty sets or like the collectors stuff the mint puts out, then by all means buy them, but getting someone to buy them again at the price you paid could be tricky, even the place you bought them from.
 
probably the good gold price is why the question is asked?

My aunt from europe gave me a 1Oz one when she stayed with me for a week

Yes, over the years bought at least few hundreds of 10th, 1/4, 1/2 or even full KR when I had funds available. From 2017 also bought quite a few 1/50th and 1/20th KRs top, which was a lot cheaper and easier to buy. But, buying stopped the past 3 years. Times are difficult.
