Do you prefer driving an automatic or manual car?
 
We have automatics, because that's the wife's preference, but I'm happy with either.

Yours as you want and hers?
My wife's is auto, mine is manual
 
One auto for me and manual for wife.
Wife also want auto but there is no funds and the manual is just so trustworthy (the car not gearbox) that I just do not want to replace it.
 
got to be honest, and maybe it shows how little I know about cars,
manual, but only cause I never had an auto ever in my life, few times I drove a Auto was so confusing when rolling to a stop
looking for a nonexistent clutch pedal.

will be interesting in a few years, when the EV future is here, as all of them are Autos without exception.
maybe the skill of driving Manual will vanish like it did when cars had hand cranks and starting was done by hand

and you had the skill to know how to do it, and not break your wrist.

that same skill will also vanish when cars dont need drivers and drive themselves with perfect precision,

Ah my wife drives my car to not forget manual apparently :). I don't drive hers often, it feels weird
 
This is my first automatic car and I prefer it to the manual as I do JHB peak traffic driving and also when going on long distance the automatic shift on cruise control is awesome.

EVs don't have gears in the traditional sense. But yeah will be a similar experience
 
i used to enjoy driving a manual from time to time - a manual with reasonable guts - reasonable as is something like a bmw328i or similar - not some high performance car.

auto gearboxes have come a long way.
from time to time, in certain situations - and for schitts & giggles - i sometimes change gears (in my auto) manually.
but it turns out to do the very same thing i was aiming for by changing manually, the car does equally or better, changing automatically !!

That and the start stop make sense on autos.
I've had cruise control on my cars since 2005 and never really got it for manuals.
Drove my wife's auto the other day on the highway and was like ok this is where it makes sense
 
Having driven both I prefer manual, but an auto is nice in stop-go traffic which we don't see very often.

Only gripe I have is that the ratios on my Duster are quite short, so I am in 4th gear by the time I reach 40kph. But that being said I usually pull away in 2nd unless I am parked on a steep road and pulling off.
 
It depends, really. For city and heavy traffic, an auto is preferred, and the auto also depends on the car; I had a Suzuki Spresso Auto as a hire car, boy, that gearbox was horrific. But with my commute, it's mostly highway, so manual is good enough
 
let me ask a question here, are AMT Autos the same or better than regular torque converter autos,
I mean in the small car segment Vitz/Celerio you get many AMT but not so many Torque converter small cars

is that better/worse?
