I haven't had this perk in years now. Even then, I am sure the tax implications were not that great.

Nothing wrong with $20.
I let some outlandish entertainer go down on me in the toilets of a nightclub where I was a barman after losing a bet - and the exchange rate for dollars was not as favourable to dollars then as it is now.

Half the nightclub packed into the toilets to witness the spectacle which played out to a chorus of screeching and laughter.
I emerged victorious, clutching a $20 note in my grubby hands.
But not only that, the owner of the club gave me the rest of the night off and free drinks at the bar.
It didn't end there. This particular entertainer, now in a completely messed up bleached blonde wig, torn dress and dirty knees - in a husky voice, offered me a whole lot more for starfish access.
Unfortunately for him, he was particularly aesthetically challenged, had a potty mouth & was well known to be a dirty Gerty.

I gained my 15 minutes of fame & with it a perverse celebrity status that followed me for some time constantly being asked to recall the incident much to the entertainment of all.

10/10 a better read than people bickering about how their packages are structured.
 
Because of regular travel claims, a R1k portion of my gross salary gets shown as car allowance on my payslip. Helps a bit to reduce my monthly tax.

A senior staff member requested that R7k of his salary gets used towards a car allowance to reduce his monthly tax. This wasn't removed during the lockdown period when we were not traveling for work and he got hit hard by SARS with last years tax return.
 
This isn't the 1980s or 1990s. My dad used to get a car allowance. I've never had one.
 
I used to get a fixed allowance pre-covid - now I get a per km allowance.
