if you buy an assembled PC from a place like Wootware, do they still have those stickers on them that say you will lose the warranty if you open the box?

Firstly, wootware are great. I've bought two Dell Poweredges from them, a T20, and a T30. Both open without tools, they have a handle on the side that releases the side cover. No stickers.

However, YMMV depending what you get. Generally, I expect they won't be dicks about warranties, but I haven't actually had a problem.

There is a sensor on the side of the case that plugs into the motherboard. Presumably opening the case gets logged in the BIOS. Given I also bought a video card and a fan (plus it didn't actually come with a hard drive), I'm confident they thought I might open the case. I don't know what that did to the warranty.

I highly doubt Wootware will have such a requirement or issue. They sell PC parts and have warrantees on those parts. Check with them, but I highly doubt it. They build the PC to order as an added service, should not affect your warrantee if you open it.

I can't see them doing that either, not what they are.

Cool. Thanks for the answers. I've ordered a box, so I will let you know if anything's changed
