Work = Notebook

Home = Linux desk top, and also have a Win 10 desktop that's just a general shared PC

Nope, I use a laptop both for work and for personal purposes. Haven't used a desktop in like 2 years when I gave it away to my nephew.

we have 2 desktops in use currently.

1 is a media centre plugged into the Telly. (Windows 10 + Kodi)

1 is for filling a server function, large capacity shared drives and runs a SQL server for Kodi (windows 10) and a bit of classic gaming.

The rest of the machines are laptops and tablets (windows and Android).

Desktop at work, laptop at home but I am in the process of building a gaming rig.

I have desktop replacement laptops. And also its makes it easier to hide them in the closet when I'm gone for extended periods of time

A laptop just doesn't have the grunt of a desktop for the price.

I agree with genetic and I personally had bad experiences with laptop's,especially if you try and clean the heatsink of the laptop that's cpu overheats to the point of emergency shutdown.

I don't trust laptops anymore and will probably never buy one ever again.

I will stick to my custom built Evetech Desktop.

Nope; sold the screen, connected it to my tv, installed sonarr - plex - sabnzbd - couchpotato and teamviewer.

I second that,Desktops are easier to repair and upgrade.

Exactly.

Just tried to help a non-techie relative in Australia to replace the hard drive in his 27" iMac and it was a nightmare.

Even if you know what you are doing, it cannot be done in less than 30 minutes without specialized tools.

Doing the same thing on a PC takes <5 minutes with two Philips screwdrivers.

yes, use it for gaming/streaming and as a store of all my movies

yes laptops are nice, but they have their limitations,

Sure but streaming or storing movies isn't one of them.

I lost a laptop by cleaning the heatsink of the overheating cpu and for some or other reason the

graphics part of the motherboard went somehow because of this,I was careful when I opened it up and

everything ( I am a A+ Technician).

Laptops are to sensitive and overpriced.

Fully agree.

A lot of them are made intentionally difficult for you to service it yourself.

Work is done on a work supplied laptop. Gaming machine at home has to be a Desktop pc. You just cannot keep up with technological updates with a laptop. No matter how advanced you buy them they will struggle with latest games within 3 to 5 years. Tablet and phone are used for most other mundane tasks.

I realize I'm 6 months late asking this question but need to ask if you use a docking station or just hook up independently?

At home yes. Mostly Gaming and watching Movies/Series.

At work yes.
