Online publishers, like MyBroadband, rely heavily on advertising to keep their businesses financially viable.

Do you think they should block/serve blank pages to users who use AdBlock or similar services built into browsers in order to protect that revenue stream?

And to be honest the articles don't warrant being paid for. It's quite clear these articles get churned out by the numbers to provide more ad placement. It's disingenuous to pose the question as if all publishers are the same. I'm prepared to pay for some sites, not for others. The yes/no nature of the question is stupid.

I see nothing wrong with blocking adblock users so long as the site in question refrains from serving too many ads. The MyBB home page simply has too many of them and unfortunately they get in the way.
 
No, but new approaches to online advertising must be explored. Online advertising needs to be non-intrusive and seamless with the websites content. It comes down to the design.
 
Well if myBB starts interfering with how I want to access the Internet, I will simply move on ......
 
Most ads are intrusive and that is the problem.


There needs to be a better managed solution....whereby the user can opt in .
 
If I come across a website with features that will block me because of Adblock... I move on, there are a 1000 other sites which can give me what I need.

Their intention isn't to do that.
If a site publishing articles provides something of value to you isn't it unreasonable to expect the content for free?

I would think that if MyBB was a premium content site with paid users.ie a subscription ( basically a porn site :love:) with user login details and passwords then i guess the site owners have every right to use intrusive advertising.

We do serve ads and they are visible - no denying that. But we do not hide content behind adverts or force you to watch/see an advert before the content is served. That's what I mean by unobtrusive.
 
I've turned off my Ad-Blocker on MyBB for a long time now... but it's going right back on if there is anything overly intrusive about the advertising! :p

This would be like committing suicide. Except if you think that Mybb is so awesome that people will still use it even if you inconvenience them.

Use education about how sites generate revenue. Do a few articles. Tell us what Dave would do and even explain all the functionality of adblocker so people know they can set certain sites to "safe" or whatever you call it.
 
If a site asks me nicely AND their ads are not annoying AND I find their content useful, then I will white list them.
