Very often they're standing in the way of me reversing.
I used to have a car with rear PDC (before I got my Man Card back), those Forkers would stand in my blinds pot but close enough to activate the PDC... Nearly gave one a PK...

Yebo. It's no fun standing on the sun, windy or rain when you could be breaking into homes elsewhere.

Because a lot of these management couldn't care less and shop owners complaining yield no results. But yes, slowly they become dumps, specially once a well run new mall opens.
Looking at the shopping malls around Cape Town, which are packed to the gills regardless of whether there are car guards in the parking area, the shop owners have nothing to complain about. The majority of shoppers are not going elsewhere.

Paid parking isn't really any more secure either. It's not like they stop anyone from just walking into the parking.

BUT why actively encourage behavior where they actually assist the thieves in pointing out that they should take YOUR car because you don't give them a R2 coin
The thieves will just laugh at them. They definitely won't want my car.

most people don't mind giving interpark or some other useless company R10 per hour to do nothing but paint lines on the
I object to all shopping centres charging for parking.

They aren't at every supermarket yet, luckily.
They almost are in Cape Town. There isn't a single one at any reasonable distance from where I live that doesn't have them. Even the places with paid covered parking have them.

Cape Town is a different kettle of fish. If they could get rid of the clown party completely it will boom even more.

My wife and I refer to R5 as parking tokens. Sick of constantly being out of this went to fnb draw 1.5k and they converted that to 300 parking tokens at zero charge.

Enough for a few years.

Also never felt more uncomfortable walking around with this much cash

When handed the bag I realized its not gonna fit in my pocket got another bag. Split it into two pockets found wife and popped it into a tote

i will generally give the car guards something but these irritating clowns who stand at every robot in every corner - well when i go out i pass at least 60 to 70 robots during the journey so do all these tw@ttys expect me to give all 70 of them something ..... so as far as i'm concerned all those tw@ttys can stand on their heads and whistle through their ar5es because most of them have a big attitude problem and for the unfriendly ar5es i only got tight PKs to give them

i am also prepared to leave the supermarket cashiers and the guys who fill up your packets for you and garage attendants some change whenever i have - to the extent that if i'm filling petrol for R300 i will tell the guy to fill in R295 to leave R5 for him - most of those people are friendly enough and also helpful at the places i regularly go to - but the unfriendly morons in the street corners are not going to get any joy from me and woe betide any tw@tty who doesn't listen when i say "no" and makes me repeat myself when he carries on whining about "only a 20c" but he doesn't really want anything less than a R5 coin

Don't carry cash so no. Wouldn't give them anything even if I did have cash. Reason being when my brother's car got stolen all 10 car guards suddenly turned blind and saw nothing...

It's not even about the money. In Cape Town at least, the malls without car guards are the ones where you have to pay for parking, and the malls with car guards tend to be the ones with free parking. But I'd rather pay R10 or R15 for proper secure parking at an upmarket mall that understands that customers don't like to be harassed by beggars.

There are free parking malls in Cape Town without car guards. There are also malls with paid parking but with the first 90 minutes free.

I am going to do this with R200 note that he has. He is going to be ecstatic to have so much money. LOL.

What purpose do they serve? Wherever there's cars, there's a car 'guard' who I see for the first time when I get to my car

Usually standing behind blocking my view to reverse and expects a tip for this 'Service'

Now that I got that out of the way

Yes sometimes I do but I don't know why
Guilted into it or whatever.

No!!!! I park as far away from the entrance as I can as they swarm like vultures.
I am in and out, My wife always tips. makes me angry!.

I actually tip more often than not, bad habit that was transfered from tipping waiters/ waitresses.

This blocking the view to reverse and erratic hand gestures annoys me as well. I just stop for half a minute for them to get message and then reverse. On getting down, I politely try to tell them not to do that as they are blocking the view - not that it makes any difference. I get 'sorry bozza' and 'yes bozza' etc..

At malls I tip because i am lazy.. I always give them my empty trolley. At the end of the day it is an honest living and these guys depend on the tips to put food on the table .

The tik koppe car guards standing at random locations dont get a cent from me.
