Installed it.

Stated no access to contacts yet lo and behold a friend sends me a hello message.

So how private is that? Not impressed

Obviously your friend didn't restrict access to contacts? Not really too familiar with Telegram so I'm not 100% confident how it works though.

I use it when whatsapp is not working properly and it works on an ipad and pc with the same account as on your phone without your phone needing to be close by.

AFAIK WhatsApp can do the PC thing, they have an app that you can install on Windows (and Mac AFAIK?) but I only use Linux so I haven't tried either. WhatsApp Web is pretty convenient.

As for me: I prefer Signal over all of the above, but the same caveat applies - getting anyone else to use it is challenging, so WhatsApp it is.

Yes - Telegram is far superior but I use the Plus overlay that puts my chats into Tabs. Separates my personal, group, supergroups, channels, bots and favs. Hate WhatsApp. Have that for family and clients only.

Telegram has a PC client too. And even better - it hides your secret chats so they are not visible if you leave the PC app logged in.

Been using it for years now, mainly comms with the wife. I keep it open in a browser tab, she prefers the desktop app. My best friend uses it but it's not the "preferred" app. My mom used it for a while but after setting up her latest phone didn't bother installing it. Whatsapp Web seems to kill the phones battery, while telegram of course doesn't even require a phone.

Yes because most of the furries I know use it so I have a large number of contacts and groups on it allready.

Nope, Tried it, but no one was using it that I knew, not even the tech guys I know, so carried on with Whatsapp

I am coping this post as it is exactly wot happened to me too.

Can anyone tell me how to change the colours of individual chats?

What I want is a way to colour-code all my chats (think a simple red, yellow, green kind of triage effect, depending on importance/urgency). (for use at work, that is)

The way the icons in the image below have different colours - I want the whole of that chat to have that colour.

Can this be done? images (19).jpeg

Just downloaded it and going to sus it out. However none of the people in my current circle of friends use so will see how it goes......
