Hi Guys n Gals,

I did a search on myADSL for some information on DoBroadband Level 1. I couldnt find exactly what I was looking for. Perhaps I wasnt patient enough.

Does anyone know if DoBroadband level 1 has a soft cap on the 1GB account? If so how much can one expect to get from it?

Many Thanks,
Syzygy

Hard capped. Although 1 user got through over 2 GBs without getting capped. But its definitely hardcapped.

LOL Feo, you gonna make me sound like an abuser! Watch, this month om gonna get capped on 500megs

Just a quote from the ADSL Usage mail I get every day:
As a TelkomInternet subscriber you have access to our unique threshold management service. This service operates as follows: should you exceed your initial individual service threshold, as above, you will automatically be transferred into our collective threshold option. This will enable you to stay online until such time that the average usage for all our subscribers reaches the collective service threshold.
So if, in fact, do1 is hardcapped, wouldn't this statement qualify as false? Does the fact that Feo got 1.1GB mean that the threshold was just 100megs, or that you went over a 1GB before 23:59 when the usage levels were checked?

ALL Telkom packages are softcapped with a current capping policy of 2x the advertised data allocation. In other words a Do1 package currently gets you 2GB data per month.

Nope, it's hardcapped, only the 2gb and 3gb packages are softcapped...

Hmmmm, so I get 1GB on Level 1 and perhaps 4GB's on Level 2?

Ill have to think about it :P

Thanks

So which is it now? We have Telkom in their communications claiming that its softcapped and actual users/speculators claiming its hardcapped?

Don't read what's stated on their site, we heard first hand from bonobo that HE caps us (well implements the system that does the capping that is). Sure he gets instructions from the big guys but it seems the capping policies on the different accounts are not set in stone. Some people get over 7GBs on a 3GB account and then people like me get hardcapped at 1GB on a 1GB account and some people pull much more than that. So basically it's random :(

LOL @ you guys. There's no such thing as "softcap" on any of Telkoms packages. Softcap implies a reduction in speed once you've reached your allocated data allowance. On IS's packages you are softcapped because your speed becomes limited to local access (and slow international) once you've reached your allocated international allowance. You're allowed to exceed your limit sure, but you're not softcapped.

Shall it henceforth be referred to as a 2GB (or 4/6GB) AS-TELKOM-NIE-VOL-STRONT-IS-NIE cap?

Where is Bonobo anyway? Is he on leave?
Or has he been fired for divulging company secrets about caps....

No idea. Having SOMEONE from Telkom around was good, cleared up some confusion but Telkom is a crap company and I wouldn't be surprised if they banned him from coming here. I wish Telkom would just get their heads out of the sand and give us a rep like v3g.

Hehe I can see how it can be difficult to make reference to, but Telkom refers to it as a "relaxed cap" i.e. you're allowed to exceed. A soft cap is a different concept altogether.

Yeah, everything here is accurate, I just dont understand why some 1GB people get 2GB. Especially after going over the 1GB half way through the month.

Telkom maths. :D

I was reading that email notice too and nowhere does it say that it does not apply to the 1GB account. And since I've been cut off on 1GB exactly, every single time, the email is completely misleading.

I called Telkom abou it and they said the 'softcap' definately does NOT apply to the 1GB account....

I guess that one guy was just lucky then.. very strange
