Hey all,

Is there any software available that will convert images to a standard format and send through to a handheld device like a PDA or cellphone, that will be generic enough to be viewed on any device? If not, is there any work around to be able to convert the images and send to a mobile device by converting the images to a pre-determined format, as specified by the type of device?

The one catch is that this must be secure or encrypted, so as to ensure that only the client can open the file, and not some random person who happens to hear the phone ring, or if the device is stolen?

Thanks

Google for ScanR software. you take an image with the phone's camera and it digitizes it and uploads it to the e-mail or location of your choice. The location is password protected. Not sure what happens to the image taken on the cellphone though.

Sending dodge MMS again!?! :)

Not sure if you can password protect the actual image in the message. The best bet is for the person to have a password on their gallery or phone so prying eyes cannot retrieve the message.

As far as I am aware most PDAs and cellphones can view JPGs?

Thanks Gary but from the sounds of things I doubt this would work. I am looking for more of an enterprise size solution that could take a statement and send it directly to a client, regardless of their handset, but only they can open it. Do you think there is a work around that could achieve this using this software as the backbone?

I know many companies have SMS servers but the software has so far turned out to be somewhat disappointing in that it cannot send an encrypted message in a format for any mobile device. Damn, I wish there was some kind of standardisation. I could piecemeal a solution using a document converter and then encrypt the file and send it, then just ensure that the decryption software was installed on the end user's cell with a standard password.

But I am interested to know if there is a supplier who covers more than just one of these requirements, if not all (asking a bit much probably, I know).

Jpegs would require too much manual input to send and encrypt. I might as well just convert the document (which can be exported to Word easily) into a PDF. But then not all phones can view PDFs.

Although all phones can view html. Maybe I could use our document management software to automatically index the ascii data based on criteria in the statement, then associate a set password to encrypt the html file with a password the client has set up before, then use an ordinary sms server to send it out. The client will have to install the decryption software only the 1st time and thereafter they input a password and voila, their statements are with them? Thy could even send a request for a statement from their cell phone - a full statement and the cost would be tiny.

I am a completely self taught novice and actually the owner, not the IT guy, but can someone confirm whether this would work or not and what the risks associated with this might be?

hmmm... let me speak to an encryption and digitizing expert. I just happen to know one :p I'll see what he recommends! He is actually handling the ticket security for the World Cup Soccer.

Thanks, your help is really appreciated an will be reciprocated whenever I can.

Shameless bump - anyone know if my solution above would work?
