Dodgy Chinese Reyee WiFi

So I bought this Reyee WiFi 6 from Scoop as it was cheap but this is the dodgy stuff its doing!

I would return it, seems like with a cheap device there are always trade-offs, this being one of them.

The tenda is generally just cr@p. I have one lying around and I'll put it on and see.

With this one it seems that its the management interface on the unit that makes those calls when you log in as the images are hosted in China. It also connects to a support bot and then pings Chinese search sites. Maybe they getting referral revenue.

It does that when you open the web management page on the device.

Thoughts on "Cudy"?

I buy Intel OEM network platforms from Shenzhen. Quality is good and use them as SD-WAN units. See that Cudy is from the same city. A person would need to put that device downstream from a SD-WAN unit to see what it does.

I'd love to test one of these myself, are you sure it's not your FW picking up on traffic coming from devices connected to the AP?

Not that any of your devices would want to go to those sites anyway..
