dodgy mechanic ? or did something pop.

Hello

So I have had a shitty experience with my distributor on my rav4 causing a oil leak at the time, I left it at my "trusted" mechanic to get fixed as I was up north limpopo working on something else, upon fixing, the car had a code 12 engine light come on, with idle feeling off and it just did not have that oompf it usually has. code 12 points to RPM signal, short circuit etc - all fingers towards the distributor.

put new spare distrib in and its fine. no engine light. no issues

So I have a few questions:

How does a distributor cause an oil leak?

What are you accusing your mechanic of exactly?

All I can see is 2 distributors: one obviously fukked and the other not.

the 0 ring causes big leaks on a rav4 95 -a rate of all the oil in a few hundreds of km.

He was the last person to work on it, if this does not look like a home made jobby to make extra bucks to retard the engine then I don't know, but apparently the pickup coil can go violently if the gap is set improper.

All I can see is 2 distributors: one obviously fukked and the other not.
Yes, you could replace the pickup coil. Will have to look into this. Most people just replace the whole unit.

Oil leaks around the engine. Oil leaks are by far the most common symptom of a failed distributor o-ring. If the distributor o-ring wears out or fails, it will no longer be able to properly seal the distributor with the engine. This will cause oil to leak from the base of the distributor and onto the engine
Seems a 95 Toyota fits where oil can reach the distributor.

and the 3sfe engine leans toward the back, it's such a pain to diagnose if you have multiple leaks.
