Does a congested exchange affect line stats?

I suspect I have a congested exchange after hours, but my line stats do not ever change. Its just speed and latency which go down the drain.

Wouldn't the line stats be affected?

Line stats and congestion are two separate things , congestion is to many people on a DSLAM with not enough bandwith to feed same ( exchange side only), line stats is to do with the copper pair going to your premises.(out side the exchange , SNR and attenuation)

So what can I do about it?

Last night I was running pings continually (ping www.google.co.za -t) and from about 6pm onwards I was getting horrendous pings...300ms to full on timeouts. Still the same at 11pm. Wake up at 7am, and its a solid 25ms every time. Its only weekday evenings.

Not much you can do about congestion except if they connect more bandwith to the DSLAM or the exchange gets an upgrade to MSAN/ISAM what area are you in may be some one knows when you exchange will be upgraded ??
I know all the exchanges will be upgraded to ISAM/MSAN but when is another story.

I'm connected to the PARADISE VALLEY (NPDV02) Exchange in Pinetown apparently.

Second road right as you are coming from the M5 in entabeni road, Protea road then in to Bullbrand road.
Sorry i cant give you any thing positive about that exchange .but the guys that were complaining here about La lucia exchane eventually had more bandwith connected to their DSLAMs.

Cool thanks. Problem is, who can you complain to? When you log a fault the options for type of fault dont exactly include congested exchange. Its almost as though Telkom have put their head in the sand and dont want to hear anything.

The La Lucia exchange is still stuffed. +-350 latency to local game servers at the moment.

Ohh i was told they had added more bandwith and the MSAN was on the way 2nd quarter not to sure i will find out when i see the Telkom guy.

Yea please can you find out FNFal, so many of us have complained on hellopeter and all of them get the same generic response and no info is given.

All the best with your current situation. My exchange had the same issue it took the whole area of people complaining and threatening and an petition for them to resolve it and that lasted three months.
