Does anybody use keyboards without the numpad?

Ok - I guess my more recent experience has been with MacBooks, almost exclusively, which is why I haven't seen a num pad in a long time.

Personally I wouldn't dream of using an external keyboard - it sort of negates the role of a laptop.

Not really. While at the office you have the keyboard plugged in. When you need to be mobile you unplug the keyboard and off you go.

There are many reasons for not using the laptop's keyboard. they range from comfort to not making the laptop keyboard dirty, to wrist strain and less chance of spilling drinks on the laptop. Never mind ease of entering numbers.

You really should get an external keyboard.

Also it is not so easy to use an external mouse with a laptop keyboard which is a must for me as I find the wrist strain with a laptop touchpad unbearable for extended work as you are always curling your fingers inward from the keyboard.

Touchpads suck so I've been using a USB mouse in conjunction with my laptop keyboard for years now. No need to use a external keyboard as well.

As for the num pad, I use mine often. Typing in IP addresses is just so much faster than using the normal number keys.
