Does anyone do a decent "business lunch" anymore?

I worked for a company about a decade ago and we'd occasionally go on a "real" business lunch. Not one of these teambuilding lunches at cruddish chains like CTFM or the Famous Butchers Grill but high end joints like Theo's or The Azure and we'd eat and drink ridiculous amounts of super expensive, great food and drink.

Since leaving there none of the companies I've worked for as sprung for an even remotely passable business lunch.

Are people actually doing this anymore?

I've not had one since around 2005 when I started at a big corporation, in the previous company every second Friday was going out and having nice big lunches okay sometimes it was to the Baron but hey.

I blame the rise of women into management. It contradicts decorum to expect women to go to power business lunches in strip clubs. Why bother?

Depends on the size of the deals we are talking about ...

Yes I have been to and have hosted hundreds over the past many years. But must admit they are getting scarce now-a-days.

The most hectic one I had the opportunity to host was with some clients negotiating a fibre optic installation. Multi million dollar project so it called for the big daddy of business lunches.

We charted a plane and flew down to Durban for a site visit. Then it was off to a a bistro in Morningside (can't remember the name) ....
Food was done to perfection, atmosphere great ...
Then the whiskies began to flow ... boy could those guys drink and they had expensive tastes....

Fortunately, the deal was successfully concluded a few days later so that was money well spent.

That is very true ... come to think of it.... back in the day, places like teasers was were we sealed the most deals.
