Does anyone else have a network rack at home?

Waiting for my lithium batteries. Wifey has no choice.

A normal wooden ceiling should have very little impact and the bounce through ceiling space means better signal as can skip some walls.

I sort of do. I took the hikvision NVR enclosure and cut it up a bit. It now houses the NVR, HDDs, ONT, mikrotik and a PI for solar assistant. The batteries and inverter are next to it with 2x 8 port PoE switches and an Intel NuC for home assistant/frigate. Drilled three 20mm pipes through the wall for all the camera and AP cables which then run underground to their relevant points.

I get a small nerdon (stiffy) every time I see it
 
Enterprise gear is always fun to have at home.
I always have a browse through Facebook market place, enterprise gear is often offloaded at super cheap prices for reasonable good stuff.

`Have bought switches, router, racks etc for a fraction of the cost new with great performance.
only thing to keep an eye out for is power consumption, that tends to get put low on the list in enterprise gear specs.

Racks especially are super cheap and common on Facebook market place, worth a look before buying new.
A metal rack is a metal rack after all
Like for example I saw 47u rack for R1200.00 the other day, and 4U for as little as R300.00 but I suppose you can always negotiate down.
 
There’s a 42U rack in the lounge. Apparently I’m a cat as my wife took eight of my nine lives. Since she has started WFH, she used the side to hang her vinyl holders and no longer minds.

I might also be a cat because she called me a cat when she first saw it. Well she didn’t use the word CAT...

The problem is all the chops using them as biltong dehydrators, makes the price high.

I got a nice deal of FB and yes the missus had words but now that its installed all our gear is off the floor and neat.

I got a 6u, its got my ONT, Router, UPS and then run POE to my mesh units. Yes its in the play room, the previous owner decided it was an office and ran the fibre to that room.
If the damn shelves weren't so pricey I'd get two to make it look nice.

I also have a rackmount switch that I got surplus from work, the problem is that it uses a kettle plug so wont work on this UPS.
Also I only have two cables going out here so would be lame.

I have a 15U (i think) - but its only really suitable for network kit - its not deep enough for my server which sucks coz there is ample space in it
