Is this tv worth it?

Nothing wrong with it - actually one of the best LCD TVs
 
Around R14k, it has internet and wifi etc. What I am wondering is, is it worth 2k extra for the internet capability and apparently it has a very good display. And worth the money of course :D

I've got the LA-46B650 - and the display is great!

R2,000.00 extra for internet? Hmmmm - I've never bothered with the Internet portion - but I have heard that's not that great and guessing it probably wouldn't be worth the premium. However - what I do use and for me, worth paying a premium for is the network (LAN) ability.

It's DLNA certified and picks up both my PC's under 'sources' - and enables one to browse the movies, music etc on either. If you have a DLNA phone, it displays SMSs, missed calls etc on the screen via wireless

Seriously? Wow that sounds quite epic:D so to go for a cheaper lcd would be just as good, since you say the internet on this one isn't worth the extra? I wanted to go plasma, read all the arguments you and Postman had :D however I have LCD now and I want to use it for gaming and for an extender for my laptop. Still not sure which tv to get though, it's really a mission to find the right one, no rush though. I don't have a dlna phone :/ off topic, what media player would you suggest for around R1.5K?

I have a Samsung LA46C650 and it was worth every penny. Got mine on special over Christmas for R7600 from Govern Mani @ Gateway DBN. So look around for a better Deal.

R7600 you have got to be kidding me :D all the prices I find is nearly double that :/ man you are a lucky lucky guy! A few people on myob bought the 46" bday for more than that! Do you perhaps wish to sell that glorious tv to me for the incredible price of R5000, it is secondhand now afterall :D

I think most are about R15k now.

Its sad seeing the prices of technology nowadays. My B650 had a RRP of R25k in Nov 2009 and I eventually paid R22k

Yesterday I went with the parents as they wanted to upgrade their LCD too. R20k+ gets you decent high end screen nowadays - often with 3D :(

Are you wanting to go the 3D route, Dolby? Don't you think it's just a gimmick? I have the opportunity to see a few 3D sets, and I must admit that seeing as it comes with health warnings, I'm a bit dubious, lol.
 
Nah - I won't go out and buy one - and don't even WANT a 3DTV ... but with the prices so close between 2D and 3D, your next TV will have 3D whether you want it or not ;)

This is true...seems like they intend bundling the technology whether you want it or not - I suppose it'll be more of a draw card for Gamers.
 
3D is just a gimmick, it really isn't that much better. I watched narnia in 3D and it was basically the same as normal, if you squinting you could make out it is barely 3D. The tickets cost more than double that of a normal movie. So 3D tv is just about the sane, you pay around 10k extra to have 3D :/ but you are all right, some time it will be in every tv whether you want it or not, although some technology experts reckon 3D is will die out in a year or two.

I have to agree on the dying out thing - I will be very surprised if it stays around in its present form. I know of a lot of cinema-goers who are getting increasingly irritated when they find they can only see a certain movie in 3D, so now they just wait for the DVD to come out and watch it at home.

I'm now officially one of those irritated viewers. It's either 2D or download :)
 
I get irritated with the '3D or nothing' attitude of the cinemas - my folks are pensioners, enjoy their films, but as far as I am concerned, have been ripped off by being charged those ridiculous prices to see the 3D version when they'd be more happy seeing the 2D version.

Agreed, most people watch 3D once, and then the novelty wears off.charging double price is insane, I'd rather wait for the dvd then, just on bloody principle :D
