I'm particularly interested in HPs terms on this, but if you know about any other brands terms please post them.

Also what about formatting the HDD and re-installing windows and perhaps other OSs like Linux?

I do LG, MSI, Proline and Lenovo but I'm registered with the suppliers. Have done a few Dells to and one just went in for a mobo replacement and I didn't have any hassles. I did a few HP's but they where out of warranty so I can't say. Formatting and relacing the OS should not have any bearing on the hardware warranty they might not be able to give you software support if you switch to something like linux.

Hp - adding memory shouldnt void your warranty , changing hdd will possibly void waranty
also again hp might not able to help if they find linux on there notebook

Okay.

Gunny, how do you mean your registered with the suppliers? Do you mean you've got a trading account with supplier? Or some kind of hardware tech thing?

I've just started small PC business and have a trading account with a supplier, I guess I should ask them for a clarification.

Yeah have a trading account. I can change HDD, RAM and mess with OS's without voiding the warranty. HDD are borderline though so make double sure.
