Does anyone know what happened to nothingtech.co.za?

As per the title, I have been eyeing the Nothing Phone 3 as my next device, and was keeping a watch on the NothingTech site to see when they would be bringing it out. They only had the 2a available, and most recently it appears the site has gone down/ dead.

I can't find any news on them, anyone have any ideas?

NothingTech were the official importers of the nothing phone, so don't think its a 'local launch'

I'm guessing they closed up shop, due to lack of sales or something, but still don't see any news

yeah, had something similar with Innjoo another chinese phone maker that set up shop in SA and vanished
luckily I managed to get rid of my innjoo fire before that happened, (thanks takealot)

crappy phones anyway, battery inflated and made the screen unusable

I know a good few people who bought the nothing phone 1's and 2's and they are very happy with it.

Also there are great reviews online as well as youtube about them.

nothing phone looks decent but give it a few years when the battery degrades, no more software support and they slow down a lot,
always the issue with cheapy chinese phones.

Nothing was founded and is run by the former co-founder of very well regarded and popular brand OnePlus(not in this country sadly, because our cellular operators are Neanderthals and Icasa doesn't help either)..

Neither brands are equivalent to cheapy Chinese phones..

I'm done singing the praises of any phone manufacturer, besides fairphone, yes even Samsung.
all of them give you a rectangle that works for the 3 or so years, before the battery degrades, is expensive to fix, and software support ends, making it an expensive brick.

I had a oneplus even, loved it, up until it did exactly the same, and just died, no power no nothing, luckily I was able to return it as faulty and get my money back.

Someone needs to go do their homework again..

Samsung is offering software updates for their a55 5g midrange phone until 2029.. for the galaxy series, this goes up to 2032 for the latest version.. The s23 will get security updates through to 2028 at least.. Samsung is not the only manufacturer doing this.. My pixel 8, for example, will get OS, security and feature updates until 2030..

I am sure there are others too..

As for the battery, if you don't discharge to less than 20/30% and recharge to 100% every time or leave it plugged in charging over night (unless your OS can manage to do slow charge overnight like mine can), you can significantly increase the lifespan of your battery..

Samsung midrangers are guaranteed 4 generations of updates and flagship S series get 7 generations of updates - other manufacturers seem to offer similar periods of guaranteed updates nowadays and only the budget phones mught be so well sorted, BUT, the update "thing" is mostly nowadays not a "thing" anymore ...... batteries are not hugely expensive compared to the cost of the phones themselves - and if you charge it sensibly or use the charging safeguards that are provided by most manufacturers - even super fast charging is comparatively not going to kill the battery too quickly unless you are very careless

the battery on my Poco F1 died and i looked for a replacement and i can get a battery for it from either Amazon India for around $10 (US) if i have a relative who can pick it up for me when they visit the country, or from Ali Baba (could have been Ali Express too) if i can find a cheap way to get it couriered to me (DHL OR Fedex is wanting around R1700 or thereabouts shipping for a $3 battery)

all the reviews about this phone are positively glowing so i can't really imagine too much being wrong with them - they seem to be like the new Xiaomi or One-Plus nowadays (giant killing phones for not so much money)

Big Pixel fan here.. love the clean Android experience. Sad that pixels 5G, VoWiFi, and VoLTE still don’t work out the box on it. So it had to go.

Switched to the S25U, performance was solid, but the bloat and 60Hz typing drove me mad. Most don’t notice it, but I did. Even OnePlus does it now. Only Pixel and Nothing seem to keep full refresh rate while typing.

That said, the OS on the Nothing phone is pretty slimmed down and very Pixel like, zero bloat. 5G, VoLTE, VoWiFi work great out the box. Dual sim, esim etc. Screen is great and it gets bright outdoors. Battery is fantastic, I easily manage 7-9 hours SOT on average.

While being overseas, I didn’t even plan on getting a new phone. I was just making do with the S25U. But the 3 Pro was on special, so I thought, why not? Worst case, I’d just sell it when back in SA. Picked it up brand new for R7800ish, and well… the S25U has been in its box ever since and is now up for sale :)
