Cape Town - It seems robbers have developed a taste for the finger lickin’ good life.

In the past few weeks, no fewer than four KFC outlets in Cape Town have been struck by armed robbers, with the two latest incidents happening within four days of each other this week.

The chicken restaurant chain refused to speculate whether they are being targeted by a syndicate, but said customer safety was their top priority.

The latest robbery took place at the KFC in Parow on Monday night just after 10.15pm when armed men stormed into the fast food restaurant.

Police say the robbers held staff at gunpoint before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut says they have yet to make an arrest.

“The circumstances surrounding a business robbery are being investigated following an incident at a fast food outlet in Parow on Monday at around 10:15pm,” he says.

“Unknown armed suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after holding staff at gunpoint and are yet to be arrested.”

Gail Sham, the Corporate Communication Manager of KFC Africa, says they are aware of the latest incident.

“We can confirm that a security guard was present at the time and that no customers or staff were hurt,” Sham says.

“The incident is currently under investigation and we are working closely with authorities on the matter.”

Asked whether KFC was becoming soft target for robbers, she declined to comment.

I thought the headline was referring to KFC themselves....since their extremely expensive and inedible food, should be served by people wearing masks.

Leaving disappointed....

All honest South Africans are under attack by crime and the government doesn't seem to perturbed either.

All KFC's I've been to has a drop-safe for cash, the key of which is held by the security company picking up the cash. The staff is required to use that safe and keep as little cash in the tills as possible (enough for change etc) as to not have a huge (or "undisclosed") amount floating around.

With these KFC's targeted, my question is: Did they have such procedures in place? If so, did the staff collude with the robbers to keep as much cash as possible in the tills? The time of day is perfect for them to rob a place like that. Maybe (if this wasn't a 24/7 one) they even waited until the doors closed first to attack.

KFC robbery gang bust - with toy gun

Cape Town - Two men believed to be behind a spate of robberies at KFC restaurants in Cape Town have been arrested - with a toy gun.

Their crime spree came to an end on Tuesday night, moments after they allegedly carried out an armed robbery at the KFC at the Value Centre in Goodwood.

Cops believe the robbers may be linked to four other robberies at the fast food franchise in the last five weeks.

Police say the men, aged 31 and 32, were with a third suspect when they entered the chicken restaurant at around 10.45pm on Tuesday.

And just like the modus operandi in the four other heists that were hit by brazen robbers operating in gangs of two or four, the suspects held staff at gunpoint and emptied the cash registers themselves.

They fled in a white Ford Telstar, but cops say their luck ran out when police were alerted.

Cops cornered the two suspects in the vicinity of the fast food joint but the third suspect managed to get away.

The stolen cash and the toy firearm were confiscated.
