Hi there - if I get an Alienware 17, with the GTX 1080 in it, from the USA, and ship it here, will it be covered by Dell in SA. If I need repairs, or something like that?

I'm interested in this one:
http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/alienware-17-laptop/dkcwg06hsky

I intend to purchase the premium support from them, and I did chat to a support guy at Dell USA - but he didn't sound too confident.. He said "yes if we got the premium support the warrant cover the south africa" lol!

Then he quoted this:

Premium Support features
Single source for both hardware and software issues
With Support Assist Technology you will get faster issue resolution with up to 89% less time on the phone and up to 59% fewer steps to resolve.

Expert technicians will proactively contact you for critical issues.
Support on premium software, OS, OS upgrades, networking, backup & more
Automated proactive issue detection and alerts
Automatic case creation
Predictive failure prevention
Personalized support experience
International support.

I can't find this particular version of the laptop in SA. Has anyone had any experience with Dell/Alienware and internationally bought laptops?

Thank you!

I know we have done the reserve. Purchased a laptop in SA with premium support and then they replaced parts when the staff member was in another country.

depends on the contract, but usually no...

might need to change the contract to be SA based, then maybe its possible,

otherwise its not really possible...

What does the "International Support" that's part of the Premium Support package entail? Technically, it's my client that's buying this in the USA for me.. sending to me.

The support guy I had on chat also said this:

Agent: yes if we got the premium support the warrant cover the south africa

Me: Does that mean if the laptop has issues, I can send it to dell in south africa? Do I need to send it back to USA?

Agent: and must add also the accidental damage
Agent: yes since it is cover of intenational support
Agent: but you have to call to our customer support that you will bring the system outside US

Me: When must I do that? Before I buy? Or only when there's a problem?

Agent: before bringing it outside US

Sooo.. does that mean my client can purchase like 3 years of premium support, and notify them the laptop's out of the country.. he's still the owner of it. will it be covered somehow?

Have you tried getting hold of Dell and asking if you can purchase local support from them for a product not supplied by them locally? Keep in mind that if a the product is not supplied locally the will not carry parts on anything and any repairs will need to be shipped.

We buy Dell products in SA and buy support for our international clients on those products (the local support is quite important) so it might be a solution.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll call them as soon as I get a chance.

I called Dell SA and eventually spoke to a manager (or supervisor) who told me that I should have no problem getting it serviced in SA. And if I want to, after it's purchased in the US, I can have the ownership transferred to me here.. via some forms etc.

Well there you go. We have had really good service from Dell in terms of international Warranty claims and service agreements.
