Does gay belong in gaming?

Indeed, you were wrong. As much as it was wrong to segregate white from black. Guess it was how you were raised, as I never had the opinion of keeping "gays" or "blacks" out of anything.
 
Oh FFS now the Politically Correct and Equality crowd is gonna ruin games with their hippines.

Fine - I don't mind the homosexuals (what they do in the bedroom is their business) but I can tell you now that I wont play a game as a gay character. While playing the game I am that character and I'm not gay. If it bothers people they should rather remove the whole sexual element from the game or provide it as a choice and not a preset.
 
I have no issue with the occasional game featuring a gay protagonist or important NPC but for the love of God can we please avoid every game having some token gay character in it for the sole purpose of inclusivity.
 
Egh. If it sells do it. Most games I play won't include these elements.

So assume you don't play games where the protagonist has questionable morals - Hitman, Assassins Creed etc.? Some people will happily assume the role of a killer with not conscience but a gay person, that's going too far!

I play those characters in games because they add to the action of the video game. In what way or form does being gay add to a story where you have to save the world from aliens? It's pointless. You want to roleplay a gay? There are games for that. This article is trying to stir up flames in a non issue.

Sexuality is a part of being human, if you are going to create a fully realised character then sexuality should certainly come into it. Plenty of games do the "saving the world from aliens" and also include options for romance - e.g. Mass Effect, Dragon Age. The Assassin's Creed games have you playing a killer but there is almost always a romantic aspect to the storyline missions. Some games don't do romantic storylines at all but If you are going to include them then I do not see what is so wrong about the occasional homosexual romance - am sure it will always be optional anyway but I honestly cannot see how people can have their avatar viciously stab/murder someone but the idea of a gay relationship is somehow repugnant.
 
GaymerX. It's as cringe-worthy as seeing gay interior design books. It's sad we're still in an age where people feel the need to highlight something as normal as sexual orientation in such a trivial & irrelevant manner. I've played games as trolls, monsters, women, vikings, children...I really don't care if the hitman character I've chosen has a boyfriend who cocks his weapon. Really don't care. I wish we lived in a time when I could say STFU about your gay already, but sadly - we don't. Still - please stop making a noise about your sexual orientation. Unless you feel it's actually helping to change the opinions of those who are still living in the past. But from gauging the general response to these things - it generally it just annoys them (the backwards folk) even more.

Ok. As for gay gaming conventions - I don't get "gay" events in this day and age in our (middle-class) society. I think homophobia is pretty much a minority position in the demographic that attends gaming conventions. I think conventions are generally pretty safe for everyone.

As for gay characters in games or any sort of fiction - sure why not? Author is right, he was wrong. It's a non-issue.
 
I think most video games have a hidden agenda of trying to convert me. I play for hours on end and I'm stuck staring at my character's ass the whole time. Don't even get me started on Zhang He and the rest of the DW cast and anime style games with bishie characters. And there's MGS4 where I had Snake crawling through the terrain while I was staring at his shapely... I need a moment.
