Does SAIX block port 443 inbound on ADSL?

I'm trying to get an online game working that requires both 80 and 443 inbound to be open.

If I open up both inbound ports on my Netgear router, and run a probe from an external site, 80 shows up as open, but 443 is always closed?

I have tried everything I can think of, turned off firewalls etc etc but 443 inbound is always seen as closed.

So would SAIX possibly be blocking 443 inbound on their ADSL accounts?

thehunter.com

Spoken a lot to their support, and they said thats how the game rolls, it needs ports 80 and 443 inbound open :S

Have you just opened the port or have you set up the firewall to forward incoming tcp/udp on 443 to the IP of your PC as well? Then also check Windows Firewall and allow 443 incoming and any other firewalls you might be running (Zonealarm etc)

Ok, so it seems SAIX is blocking 443 inbound.

I switched over to an IS account this month and had no problems getting the game working. Didn't even have to do anything on my router, and windows simply just asked me if I wanted to allow the program to be unblocked.

Um,

Then why will it work with an IS account, but stops working with a SAIX account?

How do you dial your IS account?

Do you simply change the details in your router to use the IS account? Or do you dial from your pc to use your IS instead of the SAIX?

I just changed the username and password in my ADSL settings.
Nothing else :)

I have 443 open on my SAIX connection and I can access it on my public ip.

Try using this inside your browser

Proxy Name
dsl-cache.saix.net

Port 8080

Did help in that situation on Youtube where videos would not work. Let us know what happens.

SAIX have as part of their ADSL product a 'protected' mode which blocks a handful of ports. I don't recall which ones off the top of my head but they relate to a number of commonly hacked vulnerabilities including hacks of the Telkom ADSL modem where you could steal ADSL account passwords.

This protected mode is optional - however certain SAIX resellers have it hard coded in their accounts and you can't change it. If your ISP has some brains on their support desk then ask them if your ADSL is a protected mode account. Otherwise... just shop around till you find an ISP that works
