Does the capped LTE contract travel?

Have a couple of questions about my 50+50GB LTE contract which I am due to collect today. This is partly because I've read about the uncapped being fixed to one tower.

a) can you connect to any Telkom tower?
b) can the SIM go in my phone as well as the B315 router? Does it have a nano cut out built in?
c) is there any roaming on e.g. MTN towers?

Many thanks

That is not correct. The Uncapped LTE is fixed to Telkom LTE towers only so as long as you got LTE you are sorted.

I think capped LTE is more flexible than the Uncapped because I think they allow 3G and 2G fallback but I stand to be corrected.

Telkom issue the simcards that break out to a micro sim so you have the full size and micro size sim.

All Telkom data contract offerring be it Capped LTE or Uncapped does not allow you to use the data while roaming on MTN towers. Not too sure about the capped LTE option but I'm sure you are able to buy the "All networks" data bundles as a extra in the portal which you can add to your account or pay for up front. Again I stand to be corrected on this but I know there is a option just don't have a capped LTE contract to have tried it.

One quick question, have searched this and not found anything... Which APN to use "internet" or "telkominternet"?

Does not matter. Telkom launched back then as 8ta and since launch no matter your settings you will connect. I tried internet, telkominternet, mymtn, lte.vodacom.za and apple.cellc.za and all these set as apn still connect without any issues.

Looks like Telkom does not care what apn you use it will still connect.

That said you can use the default apn internet and it would work...

Given that you can connect to any tower, and there is 3G fallback, is there any reason not to get the 5GB package to use in a dual SIM phone for data?

I notice the package is found on the Home rather than Personal section of the website, so I wonder if there's anything in the T's and C's to keep people from doing that.

The 5+5 is R199 and at the moment I pay R149 a month for just 1GB. The main problem would be whether the coverage is as good as Vodacom in CT.

I had a look at the T's and C's, I think this is the relevant bit:

6. The SmartBroadband Wireless service is provided as a fixed wireless broadband service for
use in a fixed location and should a subscriber relocate, Telkom cannot guarantee and be
held liable for lack of network coverage, reliability and throughput outside its specified LTE
coverage areas
7. Should a subscriber use his SmartBroadband Wireless service for mobility purposes Telkom
shall not be liable for lack of LTE coverage or throughput outside of its LTE coverage areas

So I think they are just covering their back that it might not work if you move house or just use it around the city. Point 7 seems to allow you to use it as you wish.

But I'm interested if there are people doing this.

EDIT: Just remembered my phone doesn't support the 2300 MHz band that Telkom uses for 4G! Though I could still use it for cheaper 3G data, but I don't think I would. I think rather Afrihost and try out the MTN coverage.
