Does the HD PVR Hard drvie run continuosly?

If so is it better to turn it off when not at work and nothings recording?

i noticed the same thing and its really annoying but dstv techs said they can't do anything about it
 
its always on, always downloading in the background, recordings, dstv on demand, box office

only way to stop it, is unplug the power, but then you miss all of the above
 
I switch mine off when we go to bed in the evening and then back on when we get home from work. It is a computer after all - so the power consumption is probably the same as a laptop - previous model was 100 watts.

I have never had issues with catch ups, etc after switching it back on.
 
speaking of HD PVR, does anyone know when / if a new PVR unit will be released in the near future??? with the price cut recently, it seems logical doesn't it??

I sincerely hope they don't and rather focus on fixing the problems with the current generation.

even with it in standby (off) its still busy in the background downloading content ( although the term downloading which MC uses is a but of a lie, it effectively streams video from a hidden channel , .. well thats the conclusion we been led to believe on the MC forums)

Only way to truly stop it , is to unplug it from the mains

Tbh it's more likely that your HDD will conk out by doing that, if it's because you're worried about having it always on. Modern HDDs use 8 - 12watts.

That's not how the HDPVR works, it actually downloads
