Does the Power Plate machine work?

No, its a total gimmick from well over 50 years ago. Do you recall loads of the diet plan & work-out ads of the 70s - early 2000s used to show black & white images / stock video of rows of chubby types on these machines, to illustrate weight loss fads of the past that don't work?

I was shocked when they put these stupid things up in the Megagym here in Centurion last year. Now Game & the rest also sell low cost versions (Virgin says theirs cost R80K!). The modern claim is that they help you to develop core strength (once you get past the old-school claims that shaking you really hard is going to break down fat somehow, lol).

I'd rather use resistance machines for that. These plate jobbies just make me feel really dizzy, nauseous & kind of violated. *coughs*

It sounds like passive excercise, which cannot work, whatever way you look at it.

If you YOURSELF do not move those muscles, you will see no results.

Powerplate is the one that does work, the cheap versions dont. Go give it a try and see for yourself.

I can't see how people can shell out so much money on this stuff that is not scientifically proven to work ....

I found out the the entry level costs around R40 000 all the way up to R120 000 !!!!

I did powerplate for a while, the real powerplate, and its a damn exercise, i tell you! half an hour jumping and doing all kinds of stuff on it, you will feel the pain!

I bought one:o

But ..... let me explain, i tested it, and got that red ichy feeling all over even in my ankles and butt.

So i asked the doctor if this is due to increased blood flow and she said yes, so i got one to help with my very poor blood circulation, and it does help.
I can not say if it helps for firmness and stuff cause i gym, But i purely bought it for the blood circulation and i cross my fingers that it works for the bone density thingy too.:D:o

My missus pays r200 pm for 3 sessions a week and even the sceptical moi can see the results.

Even if you see results, why pay so much for a piece of equipment that does not target the entire body?

For the same amount (R40k+) you can hire the services of a personal trainer and pay gym fees for the next 6 years.

for r40k the missus would get 16 years of three sessions per week. :)

Of course this will work, obviously you cannot use this and do no exercise because then your just shaking fat about, but if you work out using this will help i would imagine. I doubt virgin would have spent 80k on something that offered nothing.

:D "kind of violated". That's it. Felt very strange, but I had not put it into words... when I lay with my bum on the machine!

Overall, I also did not like the sensation at all, although afterwards I could certainly feel that muscles had been used. Try before buying!

Oh yes it does! I run a Powerplate studio and have clients that have been coming three times a week for more than two years. During this time I have seen bone-density improve, blood pressure come down, pb's bettered in running and cycling etc. etc. The difference is knowing what to do on the plate, and how to do it.

How do you see bone density improving?

I bought this machine for blood circulation and hoping it would help for that too. I just thought it was a bogus claim as you have to go for specialised tests to show it.

Hi Mila, the whole concept of the Powerplate is just that! Originally invented by the Russians for cosmonauts who spent long periods in the space-station, as bone density suffers in the no-gravity environment.
There is a heck of a lot of research about this and other benefits available. You can go onto the P/P website or let me have your e-mail address and I'll send some along.
Cheers,
Roy
