Does the USB cable charge the modem?

Yes it does. I think you need the latest firmware for it to do so though

I've heard (from Connection) that it does- at least on his laptop; but on MY (Acer TravelMate 800) it sure as hell don't!

I suspect that's got more to do with the different machines than however the modem's setup. Maybe someone with oodles of USB power (as in on a desktop) can contribute?

As per your request, I have just unplugged the power source. Only to realise 10 secs later that I'm using ethernet and not the usb connection anymore :D :D

I've been running around with a UE that flashes the power LED whenever it's turned on. After a few seconds on my laptop, it stops flashing. It hasn't died on me yet, and I haven't charged it in months.

I don't have one of these, but as bdt said it probably depends on how much power your machine provides. Also how much you use it.

Hi all

My experience is that there was a time when plugging my modem into the USB port enabled me to dispense with the power supply. However, with the modem I use now, that is no longer the case. I am unsure if this is because:
* Like most rechargeable batteries, those in my modem have become "tired" and no longer charge up as well. I have a pretty old modem.
* The very latest versions of firmware have reverted back to the way the first versions worked with regards to charging the battery. The original firmware on the P1C did not charge the battery on the modem.

It would be interesting to hear from someone using the latest firmware. (5.0.1.68m) and using the new P1D modem manages to do away with the charger.

Cheers
