Does these kindles work here?

Hey guys,

If I import one of these kindles ( http://www.rocketshop.co.za/en/kind...indle-store-36-kindle-3g-wi-fi-blackhtml.html) with the special offer thing for a discount, will the 3g still work and will I be able to use it like one of those without the special offers?

The reason im asking is because I cant import them directly from amazon.

[-]Yes. Those are the same as the ones you import from Amazon. I had a look at them a while ago but ended up buying through Amazon. R1200 vs R2000 was the reason for me.[/-]

Edit.... actually no, they're not. These were the US versions. It will work here, but it's the ones with the adverts on for US customers. Like adverts for perfume and the like. I do suspect you could have a warranty issue as you are not a US customer. They retail for around $99 if I remember correctly.

In theory you could have someone in the States buy one for you and then re-register it in your own name in South Africa. I have read on a Kindle forum of UK folks doing that. But you may indeed then have a warranty problem (like many warranties they could be non-transferable), and that would be a shame because Amazon's after-sales service for Kindles is getting something of a fine reputation for no-quibble replacements etc. in case of faults.
